„Nach:Leben. Eine Spurensuche zu Orten rechter Gewalt und zu Stimmen der Resilienz“ is a project by artist Cana Bilir-Meier in collaboration with curator Chana Boekle and graphic designer Silvia Troian, which will be on view in Munich for several weeks starting in late June 2026.
The art installation consists of approximately 15–20 sculptures in the form of panels with specially designed symbols. These so-called memorial panels are developed in collaboration with victims and survivors of right-wing violence in Munich, following in-depth discussions and interviews. They express their perspectives, their memories, their resilience, their hopes, as well as their struggles and demands.
The plan is to design and build a mobile structure that will allow the installation, complete with its commemorative panels, to move through Munich’s urban space. The artwork is scheduled to be displayed for three weeks at selected, relevant locations and on specific days in the city’s public spaces, such as Frauenplatz, Rindermarkt, or Olympiapark.
The opening will take place on July 4 in Munich (location tba).
Among others, the installation will be on view as a sneak preview on 20 June, 2026, in memory of the racist murder of NSU victim Theodoros Boulgarides. It will also be on view on 22 July, 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of the racist and far-right terrorist attack at the Olympia Shopping Center (OEZ). https://muenchen-erinnern.de/
Throughout the duration of the art project, an extensive interdisciplinary program featuring discussions, workshops, guided tours, performances, concerts, and gatherings will be offered at the Artothek Pavilion as well as in public space.
Participants are, for example, the Munich OEZ Erinnern initiative and the Boulgarides family.
Cana Bilir-Meier, born in 1986, lives and works in Munich.
